Working at Heights

This is a summary of our Working Safely At Heights – RIIWHS204E course content.

• Legislation and rules. Responsibility for yourself and work colleagues is key, ensuring you understand the requirements of the relevant Australian Standards
• Risk Assessment and Safe Work methods – including practicals and enhanced learning methods
• Hazard Identification and control.
• Safety equipment, systems and access – including the systems involved such as rigging and anchor systems, safety harnesses and fall arrest equipment, how to safely work on temporary work platforms.
• Work area – evaluation and minimisation of fall hazards through to the solid construction of areas in work areas…. are all vital. After all,  falls can happen in virtually any environment including high risk construction settings, so the right systems to optimise your safe working environment are key.

• Work Details and Impact on Safety- Work Instructions, Safe Work Method Statements, How to Fill Out a Safe Work Method Statement, Keeping Everyone Safe, Emergency Procedures
• Inspect Worksite, Checking the Weather
• Identify and Control Hazards including Controls for Work at Heights
• Signs and Safety Barriers – Select and Check Safety Equipment, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
• Fall Prevention Devices; Temporary Work Platforms, Scaffolding, Elevating Work Platforms (EWPs), Mast Climbers, Crane-Lifted Personnel Boxes/Workboxes, Forklifts and Forklift Work Platforms, Edge Protection Systems (Guard Rails), Fall Protection Covers and Safety Mesh
• Work Positioning Systems – Industrial Rope Access Systems, Restraint Systems
• Fall-Arrest System including Catch Platforms and Safety Nets
• Individual Fall-Arrest Systems; Anchor Points, Static Lines, Fall-Arrest Harnesses, lanyards , Inertia Reels, Swing Down and Swing Back – The Pendulum Effect,  Ladders, Anchorage Lines or Rails

• Safely Access the Work Area – Using Portable Ladders for Access, Ladder Access or Egress, Connecting to the Fall-Arrest System
• Work Safely at Heights – Keeping Tools and Equipment Safely Stored
  Keeping Safety Equipment in Place,  Handling Equipment and Materials Safely
• Checking Safety Equipment and Hazards – Checking and Adjusting Hazard Controls, Preventing Suspension Trauma – Applying First Aid for Suspension Trauma,  Reporting All Hazards, Incidents and Injuries
• Finish Working at Heights – Clear the Work Area and Store Tools and Equipment, Clearing the Work AreaChecking and Storing Tools and Equipment, Reporting All Faults

The assessment for this course has been designed to assess you with the Australian Qualification Framework, relevant Training Package, Australian and Industry expectations, as well as Commonwealth and State Legislation.

If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate which indicates the Statement of Attainments as recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This is a nationally recognised training course. The Statement is issued by Harness Energy (RTO 40521).

The Working Safely at heights ‘Statement of attainment’ is for the Nationally Accredited Unit of Competency ‘RIIWHS204E – Working Safely at Heights’. 

The Certificate may be needed as evidence for your employer for safety and compliance purposes.
