Towing a trailer – which can also include a caravan, boat or just a heavy loaded trailer – impacts how vehicles handle and this training will help you learn to understand the physics of weight, distribution and manoeuvring a trailer forwards and backwards.

Course Details
We deliver this Drive Trailer Training course with our own equipment comprising both dual axle and single axle trailers. This means a very hands on appreciation of the differences in their driving behaviour and how to optimise their purpose in load carrying without compromising on safety.

Our Trailer Training half-day course, you teach you the following”
- Work health and safety (WHS) and occupational health and safety (OHS) requirements relating to driving and manoeuvring trailers, including procedures for manually manoeuvring trailers
- Key features of relevant state and territory regulations relating to trailers, including those relating to:
- Couplings
- safe towing weights
- towing speeds
- braking
- Application, purpose and operation of trailers, including:
- pivot and non-pivot trailers
- definition of aggregate trailer mass and gross trailer mass
- Trailer coupling systems, including:
- tow ball
- lunette ring
- weight distributing hitch
- Inspection procedures for trailers, including:
- coupling system
- electrical system
- braking system
- wheel assembly and bearings
- suspension system
- Loading procedures for trailers, including:
- centre of mass location
- tongue weight
- methods for determining maximum towing capacity of vehicle
- methods for determining load capacity of towbar
- Driving and manoeuvring techniques, including:
- effects of trailer on overall turning circle
- effects of trailer on acceleration, steering and braking
- methods of avoiding and controlling vehicle and trailer sway
If you successfully complete this course, you will receive a certificate which indicates the Statement of Attainments as recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework. This is a nationally recognised certification. The Statement is issued by us, Harness Energy (RTO 40521).
The Drive Trailer Training ‘Statement of attainment’ is for the Nationally Accredited Units of Competency: AURTGA001 Drive and manoeuvre trailers
If conducting this training for work purposes, the Certificate will usually be needed as evidence for your employer for safety and compliance requirements.
Course Requirements
You must have a valid drivers Licence(or P Licence). All transport / trailer equipment is provided. Wear suitable PPE,, bring water, sunscreen and outdoor protection. Please also review the general important information (relevant to ALL courses) contained in Important Course Requirements
